Tourist Heaven at Pearl Harbor
Okay. So a day after complaining about tourist experiences…we went to Pearl Harbor.
This is a tourist attraction for sure. But AHMAZING.
We did it all. We bought the audio tour to start and the token photo of our family at the end.
The best part, by far, was the USS Bowfin. There was no tour guide, they just let us explore this WWII submarine at our leisure with the small audio box and headphones. It was seriously awesome.
We then went through the museums and took a Navy water shuttle to the Arizona Memorial. They played a short video and then took us to look down at the sunken ship. It made an impact for sure.
We could have easily spent two days there. We didn’t even make it to the Missouri Battleship or the Aviation Museum. I was bummed. (And seriously, I usually don’t really like this kind of stuff.)
This historic park and monument is done so well. Most of what you can see is free. The information and content is phenomenal. And what you see is real. The actual sub, the actual ship, the real names of those who served, and all at the site where so many died.
Christian, Connor, Chris and I couldn’t get enough. I learned more about WWII yesterday than in all my history classes in school to date.
So, I stand corrected, not all tourist attractions should be avoided.
Staying open…
